On 3-16-2000 at around 8pm, Robert Cory a.k.a. DJ Rob One lost his battle with cancer. He had been battling cancer for a couple of years now but until very recently kept it pretty much hush hush. The last time I spoke with, around a month or so ago, he was in better than average spirits and had claimed that he was close to completing his post operative treatments.

Never once did he let on how grave his situation actually was. Rob was a native of Los Angeles who was known for mixtapes, club shots, The "Fly ID Show" on KCUN Radio and his work at EMI Records. He had his next goal already set in the form of a two-tape Kool Keith classic collection. It wasn't until about two weeks ago that he made a public plea for support given the fact that his funds were depleted and he needed treatments.

I first met Rob in 1993. Rob was one of the truest b-boys I have ever met in this industry and I, along with many of you, will surely miss his presence. A benefit show was in the works at the time of his passing and was to feature performances by many acts including Dilated Peoples. Funeral services are being planned as I write this.
